Welcome to Week 4
This week will be another exciting and productive week at SJP. Tomorrow, Tuesday, our energetic Kinder students will continue developing their gymnastic skills at the PCYC. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children and I thank the teaching team for planning this program of special skills.
This Wednesday, Year 3 will be attending Mass at St Brigid’s Church. We are very grateful to Father Greg who celebrates Mass with the children and also explains the parts of the Mass. Thank you Father Greg.
Cold and Flu season is now upon us
To assist in preventing the spread of illness, we seek your co-operation keeping children at home if they are symptomatic and regularly reminding children about basic hygiene practices including:
Hand Hygiene: frequent washing of hands with soap and water. Using hand sanitiser where appropriate.
Coughing/Sneezing Etiquette: covering of the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, disposing of the tissue in the bin and washing hands. Alternatively, coughing into the elbow.
We thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
School Uniform Reminder
For the beginning of Term 2 children will have the option of wearing either the sports uniform or the formal winter uniform on Tuesdays and Thursday. From the start of Week 6, 3rd June, all children are to be wearing the full winter school uniform on the nominated days. Full formal winter uniform includes tie.
From Week 6 the uniform days are:
Sports Uniform = Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Formal Winter Uniform = Tuesday and Thursday
Up to Date contact information
Please ensure your contact information is kept up to date. At this time of the year our office staff are making numerous phone calls for children to be collected, it is important we have correct details on file.
Gospel and Reflection: John 16:12-15
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
The blessings of community
Pentecost begins with the gathering of the Christian community. We are told they ‘all met in one room’. Just as in their Jewish experience, the first disciples understood themselves as seized by something together. Not as individuals but as a community. The power of what they experience is overwhelming. What seems like tongues of fire rests on each head. They are ‘all filled with the Holy Spirit’.
Those present are given the power to speak different languages, to share the Good News, ‘the marvels of God’. The communal experience is not for a single ethnic or national group, it is for all people who believe in Jesus Christ. In and through God’s Spirit, this community sustains and supports us. Whether with a community today or not, you might recollect the blessings of being part of the Christian community, Christ’s Church, the Body of Christ.
God bless and have a wonderful week

Meeting 4 Mass in Term 2
On Sunday 2nd June, a number of our Year 6 students will make the Sacrament of Confirmation. As this Mass falls at the end of Week 5, we have chosen it to be our Meeting 4 Mass date for Term 2. In 2024, students are encouraged to participate more actively in the Mass, however as this is a Mass where we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, participation in reading the prayers of the faithful or carrying the offertory cannot be offered due to the Confirmandi fulfilling these roles. It would be lovely to see our school community support our Year 6 students as they celebrate this Sacrament of Initiation! Please save this date.
Grade Masses
As communicated in last week’s newsletter, in Term 2 we will hold grade Masses at St. Brigid’s Church. This is a new initiative and we are hopeful that the opportunity to attend the Church to celebrate Mass together with Fr Greg will be a moment that all students and teachers will enjoy and find enhances their faith journey. Year 3 will attend this coming Wednesday. The Mass will begin at 12:15pm. All parents of Year 3 students are more than welcome to attend the Mass.
Confirmation Preparation Sessions
The final preparation sessions for this sacrament will be held this week.
SESSION 3: SUNDAY 19th May = 10AM TUESDAY 21st May = 6:15PM WEDNESDAY 22nd May = 4:30PM
Thankyou to the families who appreciate that enrolling in this sacrament requires commitment to attend each of the 3 sessions. Over the coming weeks more details will be communicated regarding the next steps in preparing for this sacrament, however for now, please be aware of the upcoming dates:
Confirmation Practice Evening = Tuesday 28th May @ 6:15pm
Celebration of Confirmation = 1st/2nd June and 8th/9th June
Masonic Village Visits
We have finally been able to return to visiting the Masonic Village residents on a weekly basis. These visits are a highlight for students and residents alike. It brings so much joy and light to the residents who love to interact with young people, and at the same time, our students receive a small taste of what it feels like to be involved within the community in a way that serves others. Last week Year 4 students attended and this week 5B will attend. We have no doubt that 5B (who will engage in board game playing) will have the same affect and feelings of joy and happiness will be on display!

SPB4L
This week our SPB4L focus was introduced at our fortnightly assembly. Our SPB4L focus is on ‘playing and moving safely around the playground’. During our assembly, we discussed how we can be safe on the playground for ourselves and others. Below are some ways as a school we can demonstrate safe behaviours on the playground:
- Walking on paved/concrete surfaces
- Walking between areas to get to another play area
- Playing in areas where a teacher with a vest can be seen
- Playing ball games such as soccer and football on grassed areas
- Watching where we are walking to reduce bumping into someone
- Keeping our hands to ourselves
